Most probably you want to send your kid to a boarding school. In fact you’ve got rather a simple motivation in this case. So you want to send your kid exactly to this school only because your neighbors have just done it. And certainly you don’t want to be left behind any way. But on the other hand you feel uncertain because you’ve also heard about some myths about these boarding schools and correspondenty you aren’t assured whether you should send your kid there or not. So it’s high time to get acquainted with typical boarding school prejudices.

People often think that boarding schools are for those teens who have certain troubles at home and conventional school. I should stress that there are two types of boarding schools. They are correspondently college-preparatory boarding schools and of course therapeutic boarding schools. I should say that these two ones are often confused and because of this people consider these boarding schools to be special places for problematic children.

As for college-preparatory boarding schools I can say that they accept motivated students searching for new opportunities. In my opinion college-preparatory boarding schools are an ideal solution for those students who are already doing quite well at conventional school. This solution is for those students who want to experience new challenges. It goes without saying that such boarding schools can’t be appropriate choices for those kids who have some problems with drug, alcohol and certainly behavior. The matter is that the key objective of boarding schools is to prepare kids for college using rigorous academics. Accordingly all the schools mentioned in Boarding School Review are exactly college-preparatory boarding schools and it should be taken for granted.

On the contrary therapeutic boarding schools are for those students who have certain difficulties at home and in traditional school. But any way these problematic kids should be prepared for college as well. And therapeutic boarding schools can take care of these kids because they are specially equipped for handling guys who are experiencing challenges such as behavioral and emotional problems and of course significant learning differences. As you might have guessed Boarding School Review doesn’t deal with these specific therapeutic boarding schools. So as you can see college-preparatory boarding schools and therapeutic boarding schools are different and they have got quite different missions and they are for different audiences. So you need to keep it in mind when selecting a boarding school for your kid.

And the second myth is that it’s rather hard for a child to keep in touch with his family. I should say that boarding school students and their families have no problems of contacting each other in this case. For example they can take advantage of the Internet. Certainly boarding schools usually offer Internet access for all their kids. Moreover even each bedroom in a boarding school has got an access to the Internet. Of course this Internet access is regulated and during certain hours it’s unavailable but any way it’s possible for students to be in touch with their parents. By the way cell phones can be also used for this purpose in accordance with corresponding regulations in this particular boarding school. So as you can see boarding schools can’t be a nightmare for your kid at all.

School is a very crucial thing in life of every teenager. If you notice your son or daughter likes art, then you might consider taking them to a boarding school. Yes, boarding high schools still exist. Moreover, if you would like a single sex school for any reason you can select boarding schools for girls or boys boarding schools. There is misunderstanding that art boarding schools focus on arts only – it is not true, academics are equally important. So, should this be interesting to you, make use of the Internet, compare different boarding schools and choose the best one.
